Little Free Pantry Louisiana History
Mission and Purpose
Founded in 2022, this initiative had the vision of creating a resource in communities across the state by implementing and connecting little free pantries. Through this project, new little free pantries have been implemented in communities across Louisiana; providing a resource for those in need to receive free food and essential items. Communities have come together through the support of this project to utilize the little free pantry as a way to give back and support their neighbors in need.
Addressing Food Insecurity
It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the state of Louisiana suffer from food insecurity (Feeding America). This initiative started as a way to combat that; through implementing little free pantries in communities across our state free food and other essential items are now more accessible to those in need.
Efforts Across the State
To date, the Little Free Pantry Louisiana initiative has implemented little free pantries in locations in need across the state of Louisiana. Louisiana ranks in the top five nationally for poverty and food insecurity (Feeding America). The efforts of this initiative seek to address this issue in our state by creating a statewide network of little free pantries that provide resources to our in-need population. Through the creation of this statewide network of little free pantries in Louisiana, the vision is to increase awareness and accessibility to the resources available so that those in need can easily locate the pantry closest to them.
The implementation of new pantries has been made possible by community support; in identifying locations fit to host a Little Free Pantry and through generous sponsors who provide the funding to build the Little Free Pantry!
